Moving into my new home meant I needed to create a new workspace. I absolutely love home decor, and I believe in the importance of creating stylish, yet functional spaces that work for your lifestyle. In creating my new home office, I wanted to ensure that I created a space that I absolutely loved. I have always worked from home, hence creating a work from home space that was functional and conducive to the work I do was a priority when I created my work from home office.
The decor goal for my home office was modern, chic, and not overly feminine. Like the other spaces in my home, I wanted to make sure that I could create a space that would always remain clean, clear and functional. Most importantly, I needed to create a home office that overcame some of the flaws i had in my old home office space. 1. Create a defined space:
It is extremely important to create a designated work space when you work from home. Whether it’s a separate room, or a corner in your dining room, you should always define your workspace. When going to an external office, you mentally prepare yourself for work and all the task ahead. This applies to all designated work space, hence you are mentally ready for your work day when you enter your defined work space. You can use office essentials to help you define your work from home space. Office essentials such as an office desk, chair, filing cabinet etc and just some office essentials that will not only help you define your space but also help with productivity. If your home is not big enough for a separate office space/room, designate a corner in the bigger room of your home and buy office furniture that is more compact to fit the space.2
2. Fill your space with the right tools
In addition to defining your work from home space, I highly recommend that you fill the space with the tools that will ensure productivity. If your home has an office, get a desk, an ergonomic office chair, and other items such as file cabinets, storage units based on the amount of storage you might need for your work. In addition to office essentials, I also believe it is important to have things that make you happy in your work space. In my space, I have decorative items as well as a photo gallery of my past and present, as well as my family. Reminders of my past and my future goals help me stay motivated. Depending on the type of job, additional tools to help productivity may vary. For instance, I am a fashion blogger, hence having cabinets, a rolling rack, and a mirror are all tools that allow me to function well at my job.
