My vibe this fall/winter season is casual, comfy-chic! I love pairing dressy items with casual pieces to create a unique but comfortable outfit of the day, especially as I work from home. The number one item I used to create this vibe are tailored pants/trousers. Tailored pants are no longer an item reserved for the boys and the workplace but can be worn for a variety of occasions. After working in luxury retail for over 20 years, I have pinpointed 5 key features/details that I use to find the perfect pair of tailored pants. These features are not only located on expensive tailored pants, but at every price point. In this post I share the 5 key features as well as 20 pairs at every price-point. So, if you need a great pair of pants that you can use to achieve my casual-cool look, a pair for work, or just because, read this post for quick tips on how to nab the perfect pair of tailored pants for the fall/winter season.

Here are 5 things I look for when looking for the perfect pair of tailored pants
1. Is there some kind of pleated detail
Pleats add a tailored look to an item. They originally were only found on high-end trousers, but now more retails (high and low) have included this feature on their pants to elevate the look of the silhouette.
2. What is the fabric
Fabric are always a game-changer for me. The best fabrics for trousers, especially pants for fall/winter are in wool blends. Herringbone, linen blends etc. The more substantial the fabric the better the pants will fall. Thicker fabrics won’t cling to your legs and glide nicely on the body.
3. Is the rise high or low?
A classic well tailored pant should have a higher rise. Anything 11.5 inches and higher are the most flattering on most body types. The higher rise elevates the pants and gives off a more expensive vibe.
4. Are they overly fitted
The perfect pant shouldn’t be fitted. When pants are tight, the seams tend to pull making them look cheap. A great pair of pants regardless of the price-point should never be overly fitted, but should glide on the body.
5. Is there a waist band
The perfect pair of tailored pants don’t have to have belt loops, but should always have a defined waist band. The band should be at least 2 inches thick. This feature helps define the waist to create a sophisticated silhouette.
Don’t you just love how tailored pants elevate your look! I hope you loved my picks, and let me know if you found this post helpful with your comments below.
