Women have worn suits since 1870 and have never looked back. Actress Sarah Bernhardt was one of the first to borrow from the boys, and created one hell of a scandal in Paris when she decided to wear what she called “boys clothes”. Women have worn suits for over a century and continue to customize the suit to fit personality, and style. Although women have worn the matching set for over one hundred years, we have seen little change in the silhouette. It is true that you can never get rid of a great classic, however there is nothing wrong with switching things up.

A modern pinstripe suit for the modern woman
In today’s look, I trade in the classic blazer and matching pants for a men’s inspired top and matching pants. This pin striped top replaces the classic pinstripe jacket to create the same effect a blazer would in a suit. More and more women are taking on more prominent roles in the workplace, and the need, or the field to conform and look like the boys is more than ever. Instead of conforming to the traditional pinstripe suit, why not switch it up for a set that is just as fitting for the boss babe you are.
I love this outfit because it is a modern take on a pinstripe suit, creating a powerful yet stylish outfit. The clean lines of both the pants and top make them a great fit for most body types. I adore high waist pants, hence these pants look great worn as a separate. To emphasize the modern-woman vibe of the suit, I paired the set with a pair of feather mules. Although these mules are not ideal for the traditional work environment, they would work in a more fashion forward setting. You can also wear the look outside of work for an array of events, so don’t rule out the extravagant mules. If feather mules are not your jam, don’t worry. You can switch the mules for a classic pair of white pumps. A pair of white palms will definitely create the same stylish effect.
